THE HOUSE OF DIOR

Christian Dior was a French couturier, best known for his eponymous fashion house which is often referred to as just Dior.

Christian Dior’s reputation as one of the most important couturiers of the twentieth century was launched in 1947 with his very first collection, in which he introduced the “New Look.” Featuring rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and very full skirt, the New Look celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women’s fashion. After years of military and civilian uniforms, sartorial restrictions and shortages, Dior offered not merely a new look but a new outlook.

Monsieur Christian Dior – A brief history

“…fashion comes from a dream…” — Christian Dior

Before breaking into the fashion world, Dior ran a small art gallery that his father had bought for him. He and a friend ran this gallery whereby they sold works by the likes of Pablo Picasso.

A few years later , in 1942 , he starts working as a primary designer with the one and only Pierre Balmain

It was December 16, 1946, when Dior founded the house of Christian Dior.

Founding Christian Dior

Christian Dior’s first collection was titled “Corolle” which translates into English as ‘corolla’ which is essentially the petals on a flower. This alludes to the beautiful flowerlike silhouettes that made his dresses so iconic. Largely the petal imagery in the full-bodied skirts.

Miss Dior

Miss Dior is the iconic debut Dior fragrance, that is still sold today despite making its debut in 1947.

During the war, designers were at a somewhat moral conflict, as the economy in France and across Europe did not really accommodate luxury fashion.

Now , for the end , I chose some of the amazing couture signed by Monsieur Dior

Thank You for reading hope you learned some new facts about this Iconic House !

The Story Of Audrey Hepburn

The first person that pops into my head whenever I hear the word “icon” is for sure Audrey Hepburn. Audrey was and is a symbol of style , elegance, kindness and class , gracing everything she touched. She is one of the most loved woman in the world , perfection defined her.

Audrey Kathleen Ruston was born on May 4th 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. In 1935 Audrey suffered what she described as the most traumatic event of her life when her father decided to turn his back on his family .

Young Audrey

At the beginning of the Second World War , Audrey lived with her mother in the Netherlands. They were hoping that it will be safe , sadly the germans invaded in 1940. Audrey Hepburn was a very english name and thought to be dangerous having an english name , so she started using a different name , Edda van Heemstra.

The Nazi occupation of Holland was a very different time for Audrey and her family . Audrey survived The World War 2 , but ended up suffering from malnutrition and developed acute anemia and respiratory problems.

Career : Her acting career blew up after playing an European Princess in the movie “Roman Holiday “ . She received so many awards , Oscars , Golden Globes , BAFTAS and many more. “Breakfast at Tiffanys “ , “My Fair Lady “ , “Charades “ and “Roman Holiday “ are just some of the movies Audrey plays in .

Some of the movies Audrey plays in

Audrey wasn’t just known for her talent in acting , but was and is a style icon. Her most famous outfit was in “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”

She worn a long black satin dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy and a pair of long black gloves made by the same material as de dress , a classy pearl necklace , a tiara and a long cigarette

She preferred to dress simple , Audrey hasn’t considered herself pretty because at that time to be beautiful you needed to have a prefect body with curves , which Audrey never had.

Audrey had 2 marriages, one with Mel Ferrer and one with Andrea Dotti , she divorced both of them and had two kids , Luca Dotti and Sean Hepburn Ferrer.

From around 1967 , Audrey stepped aside her acting career so that she can spend time with her family and Working with UNICEF. She worked with UNICEF a long time of her life

At the age of 62 Audrey found out that she had abdominal cancer. Hubert de Givenchy arranged a private jet for Audrey and Her family to get back to Switzerland as she wasn’t well enough to travel with a normal plane.

Sadly at the age of 63 Audrey dies in her sleep 😦

Her son Sean Ferrer found the “Audrey Hepburn Children Fund “ and Luca Dotti found the “Audrey Hepburn Society “

In 2002 HNICEF honoured Her humanity work with a statue names “The Spirit Of Audrey “

There are so many things that should inspire us from Audreys Legacy.

She taught us to smile , be elegant , be simple , and work hard to achieve our dreams ! Her charity work , elegance , beauty and spirit still lives on today !!!!
